How to get a decent framerate out of your vision system

After testing vision, I can’t help but gawk at how astronomically low the FPS we’re getting out of the stock CameraServer is. Keep in mind, this is with a low resolution (320x240), and HW compression settings. What can we do? Are there some obscure tricks we can use to up the FPS?

EDIT: I forgot to say that the max we can get (on average) is around 7 FPS.
