We’re trying to get Team 451 back off the ground after a multi-season hiatus due to the pandemic. So far we have a very small group of students who have been building up a drivetrain base and our next step is actually coding and driving it.
We’ve now run into an issue we’ve never had before: we don’t have any NI License codes for the current year or the past year. Surely this must be an issue that rookie teams face before they register. Is there a way to get a temporary license, or do we need to pay the $6000 season registration up front to get one?
if you are being prompted for a code for NI Tools when installing driver station, i’m pretty sure that’s optional. You should just be able to close that window and use driver station for free.
You do not need to a license to install the driver station and tools unless you are using the NI vision stuff. (Most do not).
If you want to Labview to program, I would ask either a local team to use their license. Email the First FRC advocate and they can provide a temporary license. There is a license for FTAs. If you have a local one, they might be able to get permission to let you use it. Contact NI through the FRC support forum. They are usually pretty helpful.
If you’re using LabVIEW, shoot me a message and I’ll get you a license. (Disclaimer for folks reading later: I don’t tend to watch these forums during the off-season. Following the advice to post a request on the support forums is a more sustainable option)
