So I want to create a driver station with some sort of clear polycarb or plexiglass, that I can project onto from a projector. That way, I can have important details right in front of my face, and still be able to see the whole field.
With the link you added, that seems a bit overboard but also probably the best way to do it. You can easily get away without using this feature by having your operator (co-pilot) look at the screen and tell you the important details.
Depending on what you want as “important details”, 1640 once rigged up a set of LEDs to the sides of our driver’s safety glasses and used vision processing to program light codes. It only works for information that your vision processing can handle and that’s simply enough to convey in blinking lights, but it can be useful some years. There might even be a way to rig up a more complicated LED configuration as knockoff HUD goggles.
