This is a two part post.
First, is there any guide that shows how to troubleshoot USB tether from your driver station?
We have two identical IBM ThinkPads. They both have Wi-Fi 6e cards with Dual Band enabled on the internal W-Fi cards.
The one we have been using had Driver Station Patch 1, and was able to USB tether. Last night, we had the bright idea to install Driver Station Patch 2. After this, for some reason we was not able to USB tether anymore. Secondly, we experienced massive Packet Loss and Latency Issues.
My student then uninstalled Driver Station Patch 2, and reinstalled Driver Station Patch 1 back on this laptop, and it “improved” the packet loss some. It was at least drivable, but we still see some flickers.
We switched to the second driver station, which has always had Patch 1, and it was able to USB Tether. When looking at the logs, the connection was of course excellent. Nearly a “flat” line for latency or packet loss, which means ZERO when USB tethered. This is what I would expect.
After reinstalling Patch 1 back on the original driver station, on Wifi, we get some packet loss, but not as bad as the picture below, which is shown with Patch 2 on Wi-Fi. Also we can not get USB Tether to work on this laptop after re-installing Patch 1.
So my questions are:
-
How do we troubleshoot the issue of USB Tether on our original driver station laptop, which has Patch 1 again?

What do you think we are dealing with when we experience packet loss and latency on Wifi only? On our second laptop, we can USB tether and run the robot with no issues on packet loss or latency, but I’d like to get solve this issue better for Wi-Fi in the shop.
I do realize this confirms good operation from the Rio and Code, but can’t really confirm the CAT5 to the POE to the Radio. We did swap the radio a couple of times with the same behavior. I can not confirm if the radio has the 2024 firmware or not or if that changed. The Rio we are using is a RIO 1 with firmware 2.2 installed.
