How to win against powerhouse alliance in steamworks playoffs and Einstein

This is for the underdog who is still fighting to win at St Louis on Sat.

Defense wins championships!

Always have 1 robot play defense in front of opponent’s key. With 1 defensive robot you can prevent/shut down your opponent from scoring gears at 2 lifts and prevent massive fuel scoring with small area to cover. Opponent robots usually come to this area to shoot fuel or hang gear; the defense bot just need to bump the opponent (hit them to change their angle and prevent them from scoring). (don’t worry about the top lift, let our offense bots bump them as they are coming to load)

HOWEVER WE NEED TO TRY TO SCORE 4 ROTORS TOO!

Pay attention to where 3 of our alliance bots are at all times. The defensive bot should always have a gear ALREADY pre-loaded before playing defense in front of opponent’s key. While the other 2 play offense. Opportunity to SWITCH comes when one of our alliance robot arrives at the loading station and loads a gear. At this point then can take over this defense position, while the previous defensive bot quickly go back to hang the gear at our airship.

Notice the circular flow around the opponent’s airship, so we never collide with our alliance robots, but we always bump and push back our opponent’s flow.

At all times 1 of our bot must be always play defense in front of the opponent’s key[AFTER A GEAR IS LOADED]. Perhaps 2 slowest robots with good pushing power can alternate playing offense/defense while the fastest bot ONLY play gears. The trick is to work as cohesive unit and known when to switch and NOT bunch up. Avoid having 3 of our bots on one side of the field.

Playing this way will increase opponent’s cycle time; shut down their 4 rotors game, prevent massive fuel scoring; WHILE at the same time maximize and continue our ability to play gears and score 4 rotors.

Underdogs playing against a powerhouse alliance can try this strategy/game play. Good Luck!
