How to wire solenoid?

We have all of our pneumatic system plumbed according to the rules but FRC is pretty vague on how to wire the solenoid and how to give everything power.

So a few questions:

  1. How does a compressor get power in general?

  2. Starting from the PDB, can you explain how the solenoid is connected?

  3. Can you please explain how a solenoid and a spike relay are connected?

  4. If we use a spike relay, do we still need to use the cRIO?

  5. If we do need to use the cRIO, what things need to be connected to the Solenoid breakout on the NI 9472?

Thanks in advance:)

See your other post on exactly the same topic for some answers.

My team uses a spike to power the compressor because we just need it on or off so there is no need for a jag, victor, or talon.

I cant remember the exact set up off the top of my head, but ill take a look at my teams pneumatic set up tomorrow to give you the steps for wiring it.

A solenoid and a spike shouldn’t be connected. You have to connect the solenoid to the cRio using a pneumatic bumper.

Correction: Solenoids can be powered via a Spike, or the breakout. Only 24volt solenoids have to be powered via the breakout as you cannot supply 24 volts to a Spike.
