We plan to earn rank points by completing game objectives.

I intend to win and that’s that

we will only earn bonus RP, who cares about winning

Can’t help but notice winning isn’t an option.

The thing is, climbing requires at least 1 teammate’s help. Filling a rocket you can do on your own (with difficulty), therefore, I think the rocket is going to be the first goal for many teams.

Yeah but minimally. If you can climb to Level 3 (12 points), all a teammate has to do is drive up the HAB platform ramp to Level 1 (3 points) and you have a ranking point. As long as their drivetrain isn’t too low most robots should be able to do this, right?

…Yes, most should be able to do it, but at my average district event, I have seen my fair share of drive-trains that didn’t account for the slope/height of the ramp, and get high centered. You may be right that it could be worth betting on though… It would definitely be less effort in-match than the rocket would be.

Climbing to Level 3 seems pretty hard to do reliably without help.

I agree it seems hard, but I think designing a single system to do that would likely be easier that designing a system to pick up both game pieces and a system to transport them.

I don’t know about you guys, but I plan on getting ranking points by winning!

Well… Winning is an even more inconsistant strategy unless you are on 254…

We’ll see, good luck.

Neither should be an option

Neither would mean you aren’t getting any RP yourself

It’s a little bit early to say with certainty how our team (or most teams for that matter) plan on getting RP. That being said, there’s a lot of merit to focusing on RP’s you can control (i.e climb), especially if you’re in a weak district.

People are saying that the rocket is a more reliable way to get the RP by yourself. I disagree for most teams. In order to be able to complete the rocket by yourself, you need around 10-11 second cycles (12 game objects). Furthermore, 3 of the placements are on the far side of the rocket which may be harder and the majority will probably require extension/shooting. I think accomplishing that consistently will be difficult just thinking of cycle times from last year and the year before. On the other hand, if you can find a consistent way to get yourself/others onto to the top platform, you practically guarantee a RP (again based on last year, most people will be able to drive up onto the platform).
