I get a bunch of these in the browser console when I load the front page.

@Brandon_Martus I’m getting similar 504 errors.

Same thing is happening to me. I can see some avatars, but most of them 504. I also don’t have the ability to change my avatar, the upload gets stuck at 100%.

It seems like a clear cache reload (CTRL-SHIFT-R on chrome) fixed it for me. Not sure if avatar upload is working again.

Cache reset seems to have fixed some images, but not others. Both Gravatar and custom images seem to be broken for me as well.

Yeah, it seems like all avatars are broken right now—i’m guessing whatever server is proxying the old assets is completely dying under the load.
