I’m Fairly new to Chief Delphi and the First Robotics world, and I’m still trying to find my way around the place. you wouldn’t believe how long it took me to find out how to post a thread. . . oh well. . forums aren’t really my thing.
my actual reason for posting is that I’m writing a newspaper article about the First Competition and i was wondering if anyone knew where i could find the number of teams that compete each year. or at least a rough estimate. Being that usfirst.org is down for the weekend, its been slow going trying to find out.
If I recall correctly, this year about 1500 teams competed in FRC. However, If you count all of First’s programs (JFFL, FLL, FTC, and FRC) the number is considerably more than 10,000
Welcome!
I think rocketperson’s right, there are about 1500 teams. I found a lot of teams by going to usfirst.org , the problem is that it’s getting updated so you can’t access it yet.
Trust me I just recently joined and I’m having a great time so I’m sure you will too.
i wasn’t considering the other programs, but now i think i might. big numbers will make my article sound better. then again it is First so its already pretty amazing.
wow, i didn’t realize that there were so many teams.
There have been about 2600+ numbers issued over the years. However, some teams have dropped out/coalesced with other teams due to various issues. Some never competed. (Say about 1100 for both groups.) Other teams have split into two or more teams, some of which have gotten old numbers… So 1500 is the right FRC estimate. Growth is at about 300 teams/year right now new team numbers.
Then you throw in the FLL teams. There is a cap there, I think it’s about 5,000 in the U.S., but there are a lot more teams out there in other countries.
FTC–I have no idea how many teams are in this one.
Here’s a thread that should help the number of FIRST teams participating and where. It’s pretty accurate and very helpful. I hope that your article goes well (you should post it when finished; I’m sure it’ll be great:) )
Oh and by the way, if you’re having a hard time getting used to the forums, ask someone for help; everyone is pretty good about that here. Just remember, everyone was once in your shoes.
