Yes, that’s right folks. Thursday, being practice day, will be more of an info/strategy gathering day. A day to relax. And well, a day, IMHO, the artists of the teams can gather. So all animators, painters, poets, musicians, performer, and not-so-engineery kooky types, thursday is your day to shine! And if we get enough people, perhaps we can continue it over the entire 3 days. So here’s the rundown:
1-2:30: FIRST poetry readings
Got a poem about robots, science, or technology? How about a song you wrote to spoof the FIRST competition? Or maybe you’re just a regular poet who’s involved with FIRST and may not exactly be working on the robot. Come on down and share your work with the rest of the group!
2:30-4:30: Arteest time
Got a neat artistic idea you wanna express to the FIRSTers at Nats? Bring your sketch books, paper, pens, pencils, paints, or whatever artistic medium you have. I’m going to do my best to have at least primary paint colors there and a biiig roll of paper, Plus sidewalk chalk if we can get any parking space to ourselves. Glee! The gathering of the artistic side of FIRST to meld our minds in media mingling!
4:30-5(or whenever;): Drum circle
From the work I did with 168 I kept hearing they wanted to start a drum circle. So let’s infuse as one with the beat of our drums in the very beginning! Or any ol’ instrument you got, and add to the collective as we find places to put up the artwork our messy paint-covered selves have produced earlier. And this can go on longer than 5 but I need to get over to the…
5-6: Animation meeting
I had originally planned for the animation meeting to be from 2-3, but why not make it later so when we’re done we can all head over as a group to the animation presentation from 6-7 at the Einstein stage? Oh, and someone’s gonna get some kind of award for helping out the FIRSTanimators in the message boards. I can’t guarantee who it’s gonna be or what the award is yet, but it’s going to be something.
And that’s pretty much it. We’ll meet right in front of the media tent, and then probably head elsewhere from there, maybe by the tables under the nice shady tent (if there is one) or by the big FIRST flag when you enter the area. I’ll be volunteering at the media tent all weekend, so if we move anywhere from there, I will have signs at the media tent letting everyone know the where and when all these things are happening.
Now I know most people reading this are either thinking, “Dude, cool…”, or “Dude, you gots problems…” and are probably wondering how I’m going to do this, considering I’m not exactly with FIRST. Well, I see it like the web hug and FIRST-a-holics meetings. Just, um, with a little more activity than coming together, saying hi, and taking pictures. So hopefully our art ring wont be broken up by FIRST officials. We’ll have to wait and see, I suppose…
So any thoughts? Comments? Questions? Anyone excited about this strange attempt at community building?
