I know all the attention is on 4522 (SCREAM) for winning worlds, but I'd love to congratulate 4766 (SCREAM Jr.) for their amazing first 3 seasons

As a member of a team who has been to every regional they did, except for 2024 CMO, I’d just like to shine some light on their robot’s amazing performance their first few seasons.

In 2022, they ranked 3rd at their home regional, narrowly losing to my alliance in semifinals. They told me they went into the season expecting a robot that could only score low, and came out with an incredible high goals shooter.

In 2023, they ranked 3rd and 7th at Arkansas and CMO, despite only scoring cubes. They then went on to win both regionals, upsetting their first seeded senior team two regionals in a row. They helped bring the 4th seededalliance in their division that year to match 13, getting 3rd place in their division.

This year, we didn’t get to see them at MOSE, but they ranked 6th, and got far in the playoffs before losing to an alliance whose first pick would go on to win GKC. In Saint Louis, one of the hardest regionals this year outside of California, they came in 3rd and were able to pick their Sr team. Due to some seemingly technical issues however, their playoff run was short lived. And then 2 weeks ago, we saw them again at GKC. Also a regional with fierce competition, they came in at 3rd and picked none other than the team that knocked them out in Sedalia, 5809. They won the event completely undefeated, 17-0 overall.

And now in the Johnson division this year, playing against familiar powerhouse opponents like 1756 and 1706, we saw scream junior take a commendable 17th place rank, being a slept on 7th alliance second pick (5th in EPA in their division), running through the playoffs and upsetting so many other alliances, forming one of the few 7th vs 8th seed finals in a worlds division. They mimiced 254’s ability to have 2 robots feed them notes, and them doing all the scoring with good success. When fully fed, they rarely scored less than 4 amplified notes. And based on their previous scoring, had their robot not died in finals 2, they had a very serious shot at winning the division.

Their robots are the definition of K.I.S.S., and it works so well for them.

4522/4766, especially the Central MO regional they host, has been a real catalyst for bringing the central midwest/missouri region to the highest level of play. This year, they were gracious enough to open their new practice field facility to teams during the regional. Our team does not have access to a practice field, and that allowed us to tune an auto that otherwise would be beyond our reach. That auto helped us be picked to our first alliance at worlds this year.

We’ve been in the position of being alliance partners with 4522 or 4766 each of the past three years, and have won a blue banner with that alliance each time. Our alliances have relied on careful strategy, excellent scouting, and support of robots of varying skill and roles. Our growth, in no small way, has been guided by the world class program at Smith Cotton.

Other regions get a lot of attention - with good reason - but the performance of both teams and the region consistently shouldn’t come as a surprise. Looking at semi-local teams from the regionals 4766/4522 participated in:

  • 1706, from St. Louis, MO: ranked 1st Johnson, finished 3rd in division play
  • 1730, from Kansas City, MO: 3rd pick of alliance 2, eliminated in finals of Milstein
  • 1756, from Peroia, IL: 1st pick of alliance 2 on Newton, finished 4th in division play
  • 1986, from Kansas City, MO, 2nd pick of alliance 2 on Daly, eliminated match 10
  • 2718, from Oklahoma City, OK, 3rd pick of alliance 1 in Archimedes, won division
  • 2357, from Peculiar Mo, ranked 5th and captained 4th alliance in Archimedes, finished 3rd in division play
  • 3937, from Searcy, AR, 2nd pick alliance 5 on Newton, finished 3rd in division play
  • 4766/4522, eliminated in finals/won worlds
  • 5809, from Kansas City, MO, 2nd pick of Alliance 8 in Hopper, finished 3rd in division play.

Finally, broncobots (1987) really deserves a shoutout - finishing the season with an EPA of 68th in the world, but without a Worlds bid. Their play was consistently at a level that would have been deeply competitive at worlds.

The “Central Midwest” is a deeply competitive region, and a lot of the successes today arc back to the strategy driven, robust alliances that are required to advance in it. Both 4522 and 4766 deserve a lot of recognition for driving that arc for our region.

Missouri just quietly getting really good at robots, you love to see it. Micheal Wright has put an incredible program together over in Sedalia, super cool to see both teams have so much success.

We loved playing with team Scream Jr. in the Johnson playoffs. An amazing team to work with!

I’ve only been in FRC as long as 4766 has been a team, but I’ve been deeply impressed with them each season. We encountered 4766 in playoffs at 2022 and 2024 MOSE (where they outranked us both times!), and despite knocking them out both times, they were always super close matches as they always seem to get the most out of their surprisingly simple robots. They’re also a joy to work with in our matches with them as they have a deep understanding of the game and strategy year after year. Something that blows me away is how they perform consistently near the top each year despite being a Jr. team!

The program that @mrwright has been building is a huge inspiration to me and my team. They raise the competitive floor in our area by setting a great example of how to run successful teams and providing immeasurable resources to all. We were able to invite our school district superintendent to this year’s Central Missouri Regional to watch us compete, and SCREAM graciously gave him (and anybody else who was interested!) a tour of their workspace. Thank you for being an inspiration to all in the region, and congratulations on the amazing season!
