I’m fairly new to FRC and someone asked me what motors we used on our robot. I responded to them and I said we used Talon SRX motors.
We all make mistakes, but assuming you were correct in the motor controllers, you narrowed it down to a brushed motor as the Falcons use the Talon FX and Neos use the Spark Max. I’m guessing you were using a CIM motor? If so, then you provided all the necessary information to make an educated guess.
Don’t worry about it. My team’s programmers always refer to Falcons by motor controller (call them Talons).
Also, welcome to CD.
When i was a fairly new person i didn’t even know what a motor controller is, so you probably know more
Such a cardinal sin. I don’t think you’ll ever be forgiven among FRC students, mentors, volunteers and employees. I think the best course of action at this time is to issue a formal apology to the team and team member in which you told that DISPICIABLE and MALICIOUS piece of FALSE INFORMATION. Reflect on your actions Raiceu. Be better. /j
Don’t worry I used to call our CIM motors talons my freshmen year since as a programmer that’s all they were. Everyone makes mistakes like that.
Found the programmer.
I’d be a lot more worried if it was your 4th season and you made that mistake. Go forth and learn about many motors and their many controllers.
Trust me, more than you have made the mistake, and most of them still don’t know they made the mistake yet.
I personally would guess 775 pro mostly because those are the only non-falcon we use, but CIM is also a good guess lol. Now I’m curious what the motor actually was!
Back in the days of Stronghold, I picked up this exchange from a teammate answering pit scout questions.
“Do you have pneumatic wheels?”
“No, we have tires.”
Just don’t refer to pneumatic cylinders as piston and you will be good.
I’ve used it interchangeably…
So you are one of those.
“Yeah so we have our grabber intake powered by pneumatics on each side, and when we actuate the pistons, they push the arms out like so”
“Have we tried flashing the cRio?”
I can never keep straight if we’re using cRio or RoboRio, so I just call it “the brain”
There are still plenty of CIMs/Falcon SRXs out there, especially when veteran teams make the switch to brushless and donate their old motors and (higher-end) speed controllers to lower-resource teams.
You don’t want to know some of the things I’ve called the various electrical or even mechanical components on a robot.
And this was my 5th year in FRC…
fwiw, it’s been nearly 10 years since the cRIO was in use…
