Idea: Bots that have a faulty mechanism at competitions stay in the hab for a match

What if robots that have a faulty mechanism or are disabled in some way, still play in a match, but they just stay on the platform for the entire match so that another robot can climb up on the other platform at the end, and then the alliance gets a ranking point for having both bots on the platform at the end?

Sounds dumb I know, but it might get frustrating if the disabled robot sits out for a match and a ranking point is lost because of it.

Edit: Changed the title because English is just great.

Honestly that’s an amazing idea, just park them on HAB 2 for the free 6 points. Easy points for the alliance. Now that I think about it, is this the first game where a deactivate robot could actually give an alliance points?

I believe so. I’m too tired to look back and find out, but it is an interesting strategy for sure.

Yeah it has potential. I know I’ll for sure tell the deactivate robot if we find one

Don’t you have to cross the HAB line for the climb to count?

A ROBOT that hasn’t fully crossed their HAB LINE to leave their HAB ZONE at any point during the MATCH isn’t eligible.

This strategy won’t work

You can’t you need to leave the hab to get hab points at the end of the match read the first page of 5.3 in the game manual

Aww shoot, I forgot about that.

you have to cross the hab line at some point during the match before you can go back to get climb points

rip, there goes that strategy

As long as the drivetrain still works, and the mechanism in question isn’t the one used for climbing, you could just go out and come back in.

Leaving a robot inside the HAB zone for the entire match means that they cannot score points from climbing. See the section where the scoring table is. each ROBOT which has climbed the HAB
PLATFORM (value corresponds to the Level to
which the ROBOT has climbed). A ROBOT that
hasn’t fully crossed their HAB LINE to leave their
HAB ZONE at any point during the MATCH isn’t
eligible.

True, but it would depend on the situation. A ramp bot would come in handy then if they don’t have a climbing mechanism.

Any reason we couldn’t push a “dead” bot off the platform and past the line. Then turn around and push them back up for 3 points. You could still climb to level 3 yourself and pick up a ranking point.

In 2007, 111 stacked 1755 on top of 1850, who didn’t move the entire match to get the climbing points. I wouldn’t be surprised if that match affected the rules this year.

No, that would be totally legal, and for people planning to forklift other robots up to level 2/3 if you get a bad match that may be the most useful use of your time.

Ah, yes. The Raul Rule of 2007, enacted the following week. I do recall seeing something in rules or Q&A this year that I thought “I guess they’re making sure nobody pulls a Raul”.

GDC’s been cautious since then about making sure robots don’t start stacked.

But if the drivetrain works then go play defense then back to the HAB at the end.

In 2016 (stronghold) our battery snapped our wooden electronics board in half and fell out the bottom of our robot. We managed to limp back to our castle and get the endgame points. Not what you want to be doing, but it’s better than nothing.

This year as long as your drivetrain works you can potentially get 12 points in the match. Which is pretty decent for a rolling brick.
