Hello, my team may soon be building a separate robot for demonstrations to the public. We are doing this because our other robots, for Overdrive and Lunacy, don’t really have a “wow” factor to entertain the public. We used to use our Aim High robot, because kids loved trying to catch flying poof balls.
So the basic idea is to have a vaguely humanoid robot. It would have two “legs”, with two wheels each, hopefully all terrain. Other than that, one arm may be a pneumatic catapult, while the other will be an air cannon. The air cannon is actually already built. The “head” would be two compressors.
So I guess I am asking for input and any additional ideas you guys can come up with. Thanks in advance!
Funny story, so after Atlanta I was kind of grumbling (in my head of course) that my team didn’t build a power dumper this year and I didn’t catch stuff like that. Then I went to a demo and we shot a bunch of balls around / at passerby who thought it was the coolest thing ever. I love this year’s robots for demos. Certainly better than “oh do you want to watch the robot move its elevator up and then risk tipping?” or… well 2007’s arm was never really the same.
Really? 2815’s robot, a power dumper, seemed to be a hit at the demo we did at the South Carolina Teacher of the Year banquet. Granted, 2815 was one of the more violent (for lack of a better term) power dumpers I encountered this year–with two CIMs on the conveyor system and two more CIMs on the exit rollers, we aren’t hurting for action as long as there are balls around. (No, 1618’s coach didn’t try to exploit that vulnerability at all during a match against them at Palmetto. )
