Okey this is a Vista/Solidworks question… So if you’re a computer and/or CAD wiz please make suggestions!
I’ve recently started using Solidworks on my laptop. I like the program, but IT’S SO SLOW!!! Everything seems to lag or jerk. I’ve tried lowering all the settings under the Options>Performance menu, but that doesn’t seem to do much.
Are there any ways I can lower the settings more?
Inventor has always run just fine on my laptop, so I don’t see why soldiworks should be such a strain…
I’m also running Vista (yeah I know vista sucks blah blah blah, but its what I have and I can’t afford/too lazy to get another OS). I’ve heard Vista slows things down. Anyway I can improve that? What can I change?
Laptop stats:
-NVIDIA GeForce 8400M
-Intel Duo Core 1.83GHz
-4GB of memory
-HP Pavilion dv6000
Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card.
I have SW 08 on my Vista laptop. 2.4 ghz Merom Core 2 Duo, 4 gigs RAM, 8600M GT 256 MB. Runs just fine. Little bit faster than yours, but not so much so that you should be running way worse.
Hold on, this an extremely high end laptop. Since you have an Nvidia card, try going to its settings and set it for performance instead of best picture. Also there is a Vista tweaker online that should help fix up Vista Issues. If that doesn’t work, email me and I would love to help. I had to fix all my work computers to run vista.
BTW, Hachiban Nvidia has upgraded the drivers for the 8000 series and i’ll see if i can find the right driver for you. Also check out the dv9000 series and they might have the right driver. It is a pain to find drivers.
turn off the fancy effects in vista, mainly desktop composition. I forget where the option is exactly, but if you turn off all that (transparency, etc) vista will be much faster.
