In Memory of Dr. Bart Kamen

Hey Guys, Libby just placed the order for more of 1923’s now-famous Dr. Bart Kamen stickers. These were on EVERY robot and volunteer badge at the Mid-Atlantic District Championships. They were so popular that we ran out in one day. While they were hand-made by Michael Stevens at all our other competitions, we went ahead and had them made this time so that we could meet the demand that I’ve been told to expect at the Championship. One thousand stickers. If you’d like one, come toThe Midknight Inventors- 1923’s pit - at the Championship next week.

“Healer, Teacher, Mentor, Friend.” We are proud to honor Dr. Kamen with our robot’s name and with our stickers. Come find us at the Championship if you’d like one for your robot or your name badge.

That’s AWESOME Katie! Thanks 1923 for honoring a man so very important to FIRST, especially here in NJ.

It was weird not having him around at Lehigh.:frowning:

This was an outstanding tribute to Bart, and I was so happy when the volunteer came around and asked us to put the sticker on our robot.

And Don is right, it feels strange not having him at MAR events this year :frowning:

I’m totally getting one.

It was a pleasure to meet Bart at last years championship, it would be an honor to have this tribute on our robot.

Team 2468 would be honored to have one of these on their robot this year.

Bart spent a considerable amount of time with one of our students and his father this past year. We are very thankful for the time that Bart spent with our team members.

Katie, thank you for this post.

Championship is going to be so hard for me without my dad there this year. Mom and I are so grateful for the support of the FIRST community. It is truly heartwarming to have seen every robot with the sticker on it at Lehigh champs.

I will have a set of the stickers, and there will also be some in Team 1923’s pit in the Curie division.

**These are really special to us, and pretty limited since it costs a lot to get them printed so quickly - so please use them with respect and care. **

That said, please don’t hesistate to come up to me and ask for a sticker - I’ll be keeping a stack in my bag wherever I go, and Dr. Stevens or Kelsey (1923’s lead parent and coach, respectively) will have some in our pit for those who ask.

Thank you. This is going to be a rough championship for the Kamen family, and the support of my team and of the community means so much. We love you all.

Edit:: Dr. Stevens made a good point on the team’s FB post about it. If you’d like to print your own, on either a 2" by 4" or an Avery 5265 label (approx 1" by 2 5/8" in size), I have the images for the sticker, so send me a PM with your email and which size you’d like. Dr. Stevens had been covering them in Avery laminate sheets and cutting them out with an x-acto knife, since that way they won’t get damaged by the elements or any robot-action that may occur.

Will these be available at your pit Wednesday? I’d like to pick one up for our robot to remember a great friend of FIRST.

Yes, we should have them in the pit. (Thank you.)

They’re getting shipped out to me before I leave and I’ll have to connect with the team to deliver their half of the package, but that shouldn’t be too hard.

We will talk about this on the show on Tuesday but I just wanted to say that all 400 robots should be displaying this sticker. Bart Kamen was our Championship Chairman’s Award Judge for at least 3 years at Champs and our students always said that Bart always gave them positive feedback and he really enjoyed hearing about their accomplishments.

Please stop by the pit of 1923 and pick one up. Thanks!

I won’t be there until Thursday night! I hope there will still be some left for me to have one, too!

My senior in 2011 when we went to the Washington DC Regional, our team won the Chairman’s award, and I remember when it came time to present at the Championships… Dr. Bart was one of our three interviewers, and I’ve never been so scared in my life; it was a wonderful, and amazing experience to have met, and interacted with him… I feel extremely fortunate.

These turned out fantastic!

Dr. Kamen was an inspiration to Team 1114. Our interactions with him through the Chairman’s judging process over the years were nothing short of amazing. We would be truly honoured to display these stickers on our robot.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Dr. Kamen, here’s a moving tribute video that was made for him by the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

We will likely be pit-neighbors with 1923 and we’d love to have a Bart Kamen sticker for our robot.

It’s a great tribute!

i hope we get to your pit before they run out.
