Allright kids,

Check this:

The Alliance rule in first will give us co-champions…
That’s half a championship, half a title, and half the
honor if you think about it… No one remembers, half the champion
or the co champion. They remember THE Champion. Now I know that this post sounds
a little bit out of the “true spirit” of the United States FIRST competition.
But doesn’t the thought of one champion, one team, one truly best team get your
competitive juices flowing?? I know mine do. Competition is the ultimate test.
When’s the last time you decided that you had co-winners winners in a pick-up game of basketball?
Never.

Who thinks it would be cool to have the ultimate duel, between the winning alliance? To determine the
true supreme team. Lemme know your thoughts, its an interesting question.

“In the end there can be only one” (what do you guys think?)

Question: has there ever been much of anything like this to compare
it to? With a new format unlike anything in FIRST’s past, who knows
what will become of the champions?

Also, both teams have their own sort of honor that only the alliance
format can bring. For the team that actually qualified for the elim
rounds, they have the glory of being the best of the best…and for
their ally, they go home knowing that their machine was well enough
designed to be selected for the elimination rounds, even if they didn’t
do so well themselves(Delphi/Kokomo being picked in Chicago comes to
mind)…

And of course, they both bring home the monster trophy…

Just my two cents on the whole thing…

good point, however, its just a thought, Why not have the two teams left standing
duke it out??

Hi
Well, think of that: apperently one of the winning teams of the alliance
came in the top 8 to pick a partner who was NOT under the top 8.
SO… obviously there would be SOME (…) reasons why one team is placed
under the top 8 and the other not… sure you might have bad luck in your
partners and stuff. But the new design of 10 qualification matches should
be fair for everybody

And by the way: how would you do that? The game is designed for 2vs2. How
would you play a 1on1? That totally changes everything. Attributes and features
that are not SO important in a team match can become very important if you’re
on your own (i’m thinking of a very fast robot for example… who could just
push the puck in a corner in the beginning and the other robot might have no chance
to get it out of there… and then the speed advantage would also give it
an overall advantage… )

Well I probably could go on a little longer… but I think the TEAM idea
is THE BEST thing FIRST could do NEways… so why would you want to “destroy”
that in the end…

Well
That’s it

A duel in the end would add a new dimension to the competition… The robots arent designed
for One on one play… Making it all the more interesting. New things would happen, resulting in one
crazy match… I think it’d be a fitting way to cap a great competition… I love the alliance idea, but hey
why not let there only one winner in the end…

Let the winning alliance get it on like napalm in the end. (LOL, maybe next year)

I have to agree with Nate, the idea of having the winning alliance compete against each other one-on-one doesn’t make much sense to me.

The winning alliance will be the one with the most complimentary attributes and the best strategy and teamwork. Having the two compete against each other strips them of the strengths that got them there.

I don’t have a problem with each team on the winning alliance going home claiming to be the champions, just like ever member of a winning sports team is a champion. In my oppinion, if your team builds a robot that earns a spot in the finals, either through racking up qualifying points or having a functionality or strategy appealing to the team that did, you both deserve the title.

The game FIRST came up with this time is forcing teams
(partnerships between corporations, schools and communities),
to branch out and develop partnerships with other teams.

It’s win-win! We all need to think beyond win-lose.

After all, everybody that managed to ship a robot has already won.
The rest is for fun.

If you’re looking to win “one on one”, why not mentor a rookie team, or
show other schools how to participate, or spread the word of FIRST!!!

I agree, one of the things I find exciting and interesting is to see
other team’s solutions to the FIRST problem! (their Robot design).

Do your best and enjoy the rest… everybody that participates is a winner!

Thank you Woody and Dean for the results of Your Partnership… “FIRST”.
