According to FIRST, the cube is supposed to be 3.5 pounds approximately, and Andy Mark’s order page has the cube weighing ~3.5 pounds and the cover weighing about ~0.1 pounds, but when we weighed our KOP power cube it only weighed 3.2 pounds with cover. Are any other teams seeing a similar discrepancy in cube weight?
Seeing as this game is almost entirely weight based, a weight discrepancy of 0.3 pounds sounds high, especially if it turns out some cubes weigh more than 3.5 pounds. We would like to check with other teams to see if maybe Andy Mark and FIRST are way off in the actual weight or if the discrepancies are really this large. If you could share the weight of your KOP cube or any additional official cubes ordered that would be very helpful.
We’re going to look into double checking the weight of the complete game piece this afternoon, and we will update the AndyMark product page with our findings.
If you use the copyDown addon for google sheets on your spreadsheet, the formula for displaying weight will calculate for new submissions automatically.
Yeah, if you’re worried about tenths of a pound swings in weight, you really want one individual with multiple cubes and one calibrated scale to take the measures. If everyone uses different scales then the numbers are not of any use for comparisons.
We just verified our weights of the crates and cubes at AndyMark.
We weighed 6 crates each and 10 covers each from AndyMark stock and FIRST Choice stock. This way, we sampled different production lots. Oddly enough, the white color variant for the crate was visible between the AndyMark crate and FIRST Choice crate, as the FIRST Choice crate had a slight hue of pink with the white.
Crate Weight Range: 2.93 to 2.98 Pounds
Cover Weight Range: 0.28 to 0.31 Pounds
Combined Weight Ranges: 3.21 to 3.29 Pounds
