Inconsistent Talon LED's

Here at 3502 we’re having issues with out Talon SRXs running over the CAN bus. When we have 5 Talon’s wired in running from the RoboRio, through the Talons, and to the PDP with the terminating resistor pin selected (measured to 120 ohms with a multimeter), everything works as expected. If we add any of our other four Talons into the loop (before the PDP) things start to get really strange. The fist time we boot the robot, all the lights blink correctly and we can see all 6 Talons in the RoboRio web interface, on subsequent reboots of the robot however the light patterns become rather inconsistent. A few different patterns occur, seemingly at random, lights on all connected Talons are red, lights on all connected Talons blink mostly amber but every few blinks the led’s would all flash red with much regularity, or they would blink red with the occasional amber light. All of these would happen to every Talon regardless of if we were shaking the robot, CAN connections, or letting everything sit still. When we us a multi meter in DC mode and connect it to either connection of the battery we get a short .4 volt spike before it drains quickly to zero it seems like our frame is not isolated from the electronics, do you think this could be causing our problem?

We’ve read through other posts here and all the Talon documentation with no avail, could you give us a list of troubleshooting suggestions or do you have any insight you might give us?

Team 128 is having the exact same problem- when we enter a 7th talon into our loop our robot won’t work properly. Only two of our CIMS are working, and the rest of the talons read that they are drawing 0 amps. The lights corrected themselves once we re-imaged the roboRIO, so I recommend trying that

Our problems seemed to be all resolved by rewiring everything, changing up the Device ID’s of everything, and realizing that the B/CAL buttons on some of our Talons were stuck in the down position.

I want to make it very clear that when a Talon SRX cal button is stuck, it will NOT affect the CAN bus in any way what so ever.

This teams issue was with there device ID’s not being unique and has nothing to do with the CAL button being stuck.

I encourage all teams to thoroughly read the documentation that is available at the links below and to contact [email protected] if the information available does not help solve your issue.
