Exploring all options for the game this year and we have come to conclusion that this game involves so much more strategies to do well and to accomplish much more than previous years. Determining your design and bot while trying to conquer all field elements can be a make it or break it for you and your team and that is why I am reaching out for questions involving two methods. A bot that is an independent climber versus a bot that accompanies and assists others for the climb.
We see the pros and cons of both so I am looking for examples and reasons why one might be more beneficial than the other.
In theory, a “double ramp bot” as we’ve been calling them can lift two robots but not itself, then use the levitation powerup to get the third climb. An independent bot climbing means that only one other bot needs to climb to get the 3 climb bonus (again assuming levitation is used). That means you can either have a way for another robot to climb (either off you or the rung, which might be difficult), or another robot needs to be able to lift the third robot off the ground. Which design you do depends on how you value the specific design tradeoffs of having a double ramp versus a normal climber. I think a double ramp may be better for less experienced teams, as it sets up an easy major bonus for you, but if you are planning on doing more cube scoring, a personal climbing mechanism with the possibility of having a way to lift a teammate may be valuable to you as well. We don’t know your robot design, so we can’t comment on your specific situation.
Also of note is that there is still a possibility that the double ramp design might be ruled out in the Q&A or a team update.
