This is important for any team who is traveling to Boston for the 2010 regional!
As it turns out, the popular video game convention PAX is coming to the East Coast the same weekend as our regional, and they’re holding it just down the street from us at the Hynes Convention Center. The good news is, tens of thousands of geeks will be flooding the city (and hopefully attending some of our competition!). The bad news is, traveling teams have some serious competition for hotels, flights, and subway commutes.
The Boston RPC strongly encourages any traveling teams to make their travel arrangements as soon as possible. We have already blocked out hotels convenient to the arena at discounted rates – if you would like this info, please email me at [email protected].
Additionally, plan ahead for how you will get your toolboxes, spare parts, and other supplies to the arena. Because the Agganis and the Hynes are on the same subway line, you may find the T particularly crowded in the mornings en route to the competition. Don’t assume you’ll be able to carry large boxes or other items. Boston is pretty good about cabs, so send some team members with your tools in a taxi if necessary.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions! (and we always welcome feedback about the regional in general)
The ‘original’ PAX takes place during Labor Day weekend each year in Seattle. This year, attendance was somewhere over 60,000 people for the three day event, as I recall. It is extraordinarily popular and people travel from all over the place to visit it. The above is good advice.
