Infrared Proximity Sensor Sharp GP2Y0A41SK0F

The Infrared Proximity Sensor from Sharp (GP2Y0A41SK0F) sinks 22mA during its light phasing cycle. I am concerned that this is too much to connect to the Roborio analog input supply voltage. I looked on the spec sheet for the Roborio, but I have not found the max current for the 5V analog input supply rail. I have found a notation in the spec document that the Roborio can source a max of 1.0A on the 5V supply. Does this hold true for this particular rail?

How much current can I draw from the +5V rail on the Roborio analog input connector? Has anyone set up one of these sensors with the Roborio?

According to this:

The 5v output is 1.0 A maximum total. It does not specify a limitation per connection.

I would say that 22 of the available 1000 mA should be ok for one pin. Note: The PWM’s have 15 mA per pin, so 22 is not that much more.

We used 4 on last years robot to see if a tote was aligned and square to our elevator. Worked well for us. Needed a 1/v type equation to convert voltage to distance. Did not research drift nor accuracy characteristics. It just worked to see if the tote was 3 inches out. Seemed to work equally well on yellow and gray totes.

You need to isolate the sensor case. We found that there was some conductivity Between ground and the case when doing inspection at event.

They are really cheap.

Also best to orient such that the sensor (camera) is looking down as opposed to up. We suspected overhead lighting may have interfered.
