Intake and Shooter (Flywheel) Motors

Hello everyone,

This year I have noticed many teams have decided to prototype, and even fully develop their boulder intake methods to include a roller or rolling wheels of some type. I have also noticed that many teams have been trying out flywheel shooters.

So my questions to you are:

If you are using a roller/wheel driven intake mechanism, what kind of motors/gearboxes will you be using?

If you are using a flywheel setup, what kind of gearbox and motor combination do you intend on using to launch boulders?

My team is strongly considering the aforementioned mechanisms, and want to collect some general information on the ideas.

Thank you!

For intakes I highly recommend 775 motors with banebots p60 gearboxes (5:1)

For shooters I would use a naked miniCIM.

Hope this was helpful!

I would personally recommend using Versa-Planetary Gearboxes for both systems, as they give you the ability to fine tune gear ratios and thus output speeds quickly and easily.

Versa-Planetary’s with 775pro motors or BB RS775-18’s should be good for both. The gear ratios obviously depending on what size shooter/intake wheel etc.

Something else to consider is that you probably want an encoder of some sort on the shooter, so you get consistent shooting distance. The Versa-Planetary has a encoder stage available this year, which might be helpful for this.
