Team 5130 here and we are a new rookie team and we wanted to do an intake that uses mecanum wheels to move our ball towards the middle. However, we are having issues with it and can’t seem to find the problem since every time we test it out the ball doesn’t regulate towards the middle but instead right under the mecanum wheels of the intake.
The two most likely reasons that the balls are getting sucked straight up rather than vectoring are:
- You’re putting too much compression on the ball with your mecanum rollers.
- Something is causing the rollers on your mecanum wheels to bind up.
Thank you very much!!! Very appreciated
Maybe this will help… We tested both 4" and 2"-ish mecanum wheels, and the 2" ones definitely centered better (we spaced them with 1" spacers) without sometimes pulling the ball over the bumper off center. The 4" ones seemed to sometimes catch a roller edge against the ball and -increase compression across wheel-ball-bumper, and that extra compression was sometimes enough to cause the problem you describe. The 2" were, for us, smoother, lighter, easier to package into the design, etc. Good luck! If you don’t have 2" mecanums, just search for 3D printable ones (both print all at once and multi-piece which might be more forgiving depending on your printer). Or thriftybot.com sells 2" ones though (and I love thriftybot - just sayin) the price of them can add up for a whole intake + spares.
