Hello! I am Amanda (she/her) and I work for WPI as the Associate Director of the Robotics Resource Center. I have been a part of FIRST since 2005 in various roles, most recently you have probably seen me on field as an FTA. As part of my role with WPI, I work with our volunteers as the manager of WPILib.
Where we need the most support is documentation. The documentation, while vast, needs a refresh. I have started investigating this, but we really need help with this endeavor. It doesn’t end with the refresh either, the docs need maintaining and updating year after year.
Not really into documentation? No worries! If you’re passionate about robotics and software development, WPILib is always looking for talented contributors to build our library that supports the FIRST Robotics community. WPILib is a great way to stay involved unique to mentoring and/or volunteering. We have flexible hours and locations. You decide how and when you want to contribute. You can have an impact on over 10K+ students program wide!
Here’s how you can get involved:
-
Check Out the GitHub Repo: Start by exploring WPILib on GitHub. Familiarize yourself with the codebase and see where you might want to contribute.
-
Connect with us: Please fill out this form to tell us your interests! Additionally connect with us on via GitHub and/or on the unofficial FIRST Discord’s programming-discussion channel.
-
Pick an Issue: Look for open issues or feature requests that interest you. For specific projects, there are many open issues and project boards on both the frc-docs and allwpilib GitHub repos. Reach out to the team to chat about the kinds of things you want to work on. We want to make sure no one is duplicating work. A good start are the issues on GitHub labeled “Good First Issue” These are opportunities that may help you to get started and familiar with the process of contributing.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me by replying to this thread or emailing me at [email protected]
We look forward to working with you!
