Introducing BetaBots, and the 2017 game PollenAction

Hello chiefdelphi and FIRST people,

Robotique FIRST Quebec has just released their pre-season warm-up game PollenAction. You can check it out here:

BetaBots was conceived as a way to introduce rookie teams and team members to the fun of FRC and get them learning the basics. Similar to BunnyBots and OCCRA (both excellent programs) teams experience a kickoff, build season and competition environment in a scaled down format.

We keep the game mechanics simple to reduce amount of work during the pre-season, and also make an emphasis on student design and construction. The strategy isn’t so simple though, and will require some insight and analysis of the rules to do well.

This is our third year creating a BetaBots game and we’re now up to (at last count) four local competitions, each with between six and ten teams. We’d be happy if other areas wanted to join in the fun. Fields are simple and cheap to build, and it’s even possible for remote teams to hold modified in-house competitions with one or two bots to test driver skills.

We’d love to hear what the CD hive mind thinks of it all!
