InvenTEAMS help

Howdy,

A week ago we recieved notice that our proposal for a MIT InvenTEAMS has moved onto the next round. (Prototype robotic butterfly for Museum piece) Nutshell description

Today, I was notified that we will receive $500 for project development work for anticipated work with urethane/resin mold making. In my mind, I envision students designing either a wire framework or cnc thin gauge brass… to construct wings and then pour a polymer mold with the metal framework to make the butterfly wings.

My post for assistance is, “Where does one purchase mold making supplies for urethane and similar polymers. Likewise, what would be suitable polymers for making these delicate structures that would also come in colors or allow artists to paint them.”

Fun stuff and my web research begins. It is also time to call my friends at the University chemistry department.

Reply to this post, PM, or email.

Thanks for any and all help.

First off, congrats for being selected as a Lemelso/MIT InvenTeam. We did it back in 2004 (pothole detection and repair) and it is a great program. Josh is the best!

Regarding your question- have you thought of SLA modeling?

Thanks for the congrats but we are only at the excite award stage and must submit our final proposal by September 14th.

I have not thought about SLA modeling as the acronym is not familiar. I do have a Dimension 3d printer with prints ABS plastic models from Autodesk Inventor or other 3D packages.
