Is it just me, or do the inventor tutorials on FIRSTBase provide little help? It’s ok for learning the basics, which is good, but after that, it just loses me. For example, i have to “cut” the mounting plate for the power distribution block, and i have no idea how to do it. Even worse, i can’t even find the power distrubution block in the FIRSTBase website. anyone know a better tutorial? or, at least, a less complicated one? (Inventor '08 for Dummies, anyone? ) thanks for listening.:o Please don’t hate.

The best way to learn Inventor for First is just by asking questions on this website, dont worry, we wont make fun of you too much!
Now, for your question, if you know how to extrude then you should be able to cut (its one of the three chioces in the middle) and that works just like extruding.
However, the powerblock is going to be harder to do… I am not sure of how you make it so keep asking and I am sure somebody will know!
The power distribution block is in individual pieces on FIRSTBase. It’s all in the electrical components group.
Step by step for shortening the part you speak of:
To cut the rail that holds the power distributer pieces, you can create new 2D sketch and create a square over the area you want to remove on the part. Use General Dimension to size the box correctly. Then return from sketch mode and select extrude. Select the area you created in the sketch where you want to remove the material, and select “cut” in the extrude window, and the depth of the cut by adjusting the number. Click OK. The material in that selected region should be cut off now.
Ok, thanks! :)
