Inventory Management

With the 2022-2023 Build Season on the horizon, I wanted to take a minute to reflect on shop workflow - more specifically - inventory management. To gain insight for my Project Lead the Way: Engineering Design and Development CapSTONE Project, I was hoping to collect some information from the wonderful FRC community. We are looking to develop a streamlined inventory management application and wanted to gauge the impact it might have on other FRC teams. Please see our form below, it takes just a minute, THANKS!

Don’t know how much some of these would be useful because it seems that the survey is looking for answers to problems for companies not small teams with minimal stock

I’d be happy to fill out your survey, but some of the questions feel team specific. If I say I can’t help for hours, how does that help you?

My team just employs a inventory management spreadsheet that lists the item name and where it’s supposed to be. As for the most part we just look at what needs to be ordered as we don’t have that much inventory.

So with the hours question, its simply refers to how much time you invest into staying organized. I’d imagine that with a spreadsheet like system this number would be rather low for you.

The reason this question even stands is because as a new team, our inventory management system was non-existent and, much to our own demise, we often spent time just looking around for an allen key.

Well that would be a tool box issue. I’ve spent a lot of time organizing our parts and tools but every other practice I spending a ton of time finding stuff and putting it away because the students can’t figure out how to put things back where they got them.

Although is true the idea is that some form of inventory management software would prompt better toolbox organization - an indirect benefit.
