Here is the listing of the 69 teams we have received applications from for the 2012 IRI. Four teams with * are automatic entry and waived entry fee as the returning IRI champions (33, 217, 359, 2056). Entry forms are accepted until the end of the day Wednesday May 9.

Chris and the rest of the IRI organizers and volunteers:

After having had a fantastic time at IRI in 2010 and 2011, we just wanted to let you know that the lack of an application from 1519 for IRI this year isn’t because we haven’t enjoyed IRI in the past! Rather, this year is turning out to be the year of the “road trip” for many of the 1519 students and coaches – not only marathon through-the-night drives to North Carolina and St. Louis for tournaments, but weddings and graduations for our primary coaches’ former team members! We just couldn’t squeeze in another big driving trip this year.

We’ve very much enjoyed our 3 past trips out to IRI and hope to be able to return again some year in the future. It’s been fun to have a lot of matches with great teams from the midwest and around the world.

Last year it was 116 when all said and done.

Not terribly implausible that 17 more teams apply today; still some good teams missing from that list!

We have 108 applicants for the 2012 IRI.

Add 1241, 3310 and 2984 to the listing.

Now begins the process of review: performance data, team information, applicaiton notes and support letters.

An invitation list will be posted on or around the 16th of May.

Some random stats about the IRI Applicants

  • 50/96 teams who made the elimination rounds at the Championship have applied
  • 28/48 teams who made the semifinals at the Championship have applied
  • 17/24 teams who made the division finals at the Championship have applied
  • 9/12 team who made it to Einstein have applied
  • There are 67 regional/district wins between the 43 applied who teams have won a regional
  • Of the 58 applied teams who did not attend or make the eliminations at the Championship, 14 of these teams won regionals
  • 8 Hall of Fame teams have applied
  • 20 former and current World Champions have applied

Suffice to say, the applicant list is pretty strong.
