IRI blows things in style

Team 1529 and Team 1094 started out a match in style, we started out by ramming team 1529 into the center pole. This was nothing and we moved up to our controls. Team 1529 started saying they couldnt move so they couldnt do anything. About a minute before the end of the game, they smelled burning silicon and saw smoke coming out of their control area.

They got their robot back to the pits and made a horrifying discovery.http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-snc1/v264/56/75/1302240388/n1302240388_30256291_5935.jpg
Their control board was completely fried.

The back of it.

The cause of this was later found. The battery’s ground hit the input pins.

All these are personal photos.

There needs to be some sort of award for the best broken robot part… I think this one would win by a landslide.

I also uploaded a pic to the photo gallery.

I did the same.

Taylor was proudly wearing that around his neck this afternoon.

Aww man. I was working all day today and didn’t get a chance to go. That sucks that i missed the coolest problem ever, but whatever. At least it looks awesome.

I thought I smelled some magic smoke in the air earlier today.

Also, I want to apologize to any teams we may have made mad today in our last match. I’m the programmer and I was rushing to get something different running since our hybrid period has always been broken. I really don’t know why it turned left. It was actually supposed to wait a few seconds before it even moved, then move forward to give our other alliance partner a chance to move.

But I must say, our hybrid kept us entertained all day. We managed to mangle our whole forklift mechanism, but was able to get it all straightened out after the match.

I wish I was there but my team doesn’t do anything in the summer so I’m stuck in Ohio. So with all the fun things that are going on for the next two weeks I get to sit at home and wish that my robot could go out and play with all the other robots at IRI and Cleveland Cage Match.:frowning:

1741, Red Alert, was gracious enough to lend us their spare robot controller so we were able to finish the day. I believe their OI is undefeated at IRI.

I figured, hey, why not make myself a walking PSA. Besides, the odor coming from it was better than Axe.

Remember to check your connections in the terminal block, kids.

I remember seeing your robot get stuck on the center, but at the end of the match when your robot starting smoking like crazy, my sympathy was going out to you.

I have to say that I second(third, w/e) the nomination for coolest break.

did anyone manage to get a video of this happening?

wow that’s go to be one of the most awesome ways to melt the first rc.

I always did want to see what one of those looked like on the inside…

I remember hearing about that during one of my interviews, a few teams pointed it out, I really wanted to see it for myself, it’s amazing.

I am always up for seeing damaged robot parts but this one ranks right up there as one of the most dramatic. The picture of the big hole in the top doesn’t really do it justice. The charred electronics underneath is the real beauty. Have you guys taken the cover off yet?

I think this is as good a video as we’ll see –

It doesn’t really show anything except what a low impact it really was. It must have been in the exact spot needed to create a catastrophe…
