IRI Talent Show

I only saw it as a freshman in 2011, but it was absolutely hilarious, and I was a bit disappointed when it didn’t return in 2012. Anybody else miss the talent show?

I only attended IRI last year, but I thought the Kamen Brothers concert that was held instead was amazing.

2011 did both the talent show and the concert.

(drumroll please)

And, that is what will happen for the 2013 IRI!!!

We are happy to be bringing back the IRI Talent Show for 2013. So, bring your dancing, comic, singing and skit-making abilities. Practice your banjo-picking, piano playing, air-guitaring, and cupcake driving tricks. Dust off your inner tube skirts, your mullet wigs, and your balloon-popping whip.

If you want to audition for the IRI talent show, please follow these instructions:

Send us an email by Friday at pc@indianaroboticsinvitational.org, by July 12th with this information:

  • Main contact name
  • Associated FRC Team number
  • Contact email
  • Contact phone
  • Name of the act
  • How many people are in the act
  • How long the act will last
  • What performance equipment will be used in the act brought by the performer(s)
  • What performance equipment needs to be provided by the show coordinators (other than microphones)
  • How many different microphones are needed for the act
  • Any on-line audition material, which may include a youtube (or other source) video of past performances or a practice of this performance (this is REQUIRED!).
  • Any other special needs

Acts will be notified by email if they will be a part of the show.

If you want to attend and cheer on your friends in the talent show, just show up in the auditorium at 7:00pm.

The IRI Talent Show will happen on Friday night at IRI (July 19, 2013) in the Lawrence North HS auditorium (which is right next to the cafeteria) at approximately 7:00pm. We will have a judging panel who will be commenting on acts during the show via typed messages on a screen.

We are looking forward to this great show!!

Oh, and yes, I have heard that the Dean Simmons and the Kamen Brothers band will be playing their interesting form of music after the talent show is finished. Rumor has it that the Kamen Brothers have had a tiff and will be replacing one of their members with a new band mate.

I hope it’s not Lyzzy Simmons. She was my favorite…although she did have kind of an ego problem.

Glad to see the talent show coming back!

YES! I enjoyed all the talent shows from 2008-2011 and am thrilled to see it back (take nothing away from Sean Bott last year).

I’m also glad to have vindication that I did not help kill the talent show.

Let’s face it if Karthik didn’t kill the talent show with his fantastic singing nothing will.

Lol…does anybody have a video of Karthik singing?

There WAS one on Youtube. Not sure why it was taken down, but it’s been down for years. Karthik looks pretty good singing. He should be on the radio.*

*The radio in question does have a functional off button. This may be needed more if Karthik is singing a duet with Derek Bessette, however.

HAHAHA…one question…better or worse than the American Idol audition rendition of “She Bangs”? And I will search high and low on the internet for this.

The 2006 discussion of 1114 singing at the talent show (and a link to where the video was) can be found at http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=48349.

Suffice it to say that Simbotics could be shut down pretty effectively if the game required team mentors to sing, but unfortunately very few other teams could say anything different.

There’s a link in this thread to the 2006 IRI talent show audio. If you’re lucky, it might be in there.

Someone GAVE Karthik a mic? Like, on purpose!!! I hear they do crazy things down in Indiana, but I thought the line must be drawn before that point…

Apples to oranges. It was pretty great and a real once in a lifetime event. That being said the amount of talent that shows itself at the talent show is always amazing (who decided on the creepy balloon thing that one year where someone jumped into a blown up balloon and climbed out?).

Not to be missed. Thanks for bringing it back.

YAY!!!

Bacon has missed the talent show. We’ll have to see what we can come up with this year.

And caused Karthik to freak.

That would be the Martians.

That is an experience he would rather forget, and I’m not even kidding.

Fishboy Kamen???

For my trips to IRI I’ve been stunned by talent show acts at both ends of the spectrum. But the high point has always been the judges poignant comments about the acts, even those that “need more cowbell.”
