Is anyone hosting any off-season events this summer in the New York City area?

Hi Team 4571 (The Rambots), is wondering if any New York teams are hosting any offseason events over the spring and summer. We would like to go to an event to work on our team scouting, driving and communication skills. Maybe a couple of New York teams can get together and start an event. We feel that this would be a great way to bring more FIRST values to NYC and lots of fun for everyone involved. Please comment if you have any ideas or know of any events.

Rochester has the Rah Cha Cha Ruckus. I would say it is one of the better offseasons to attend, but it is in the fall, usually the end of October.

Last season, we went to CORI in June, and loved it. I would recommend it if you don’t mind traveling to Ohio.

There is the Half Hollow Hills invitational in Long Island which usually happens around November. We plan on hosting a week 0 next year though.

Theres the Brunswick Eruption also down in NJ which is also in November.

We would be willing to attend a Summer offseason but we would probably not be able to host one.

MidKnight Mayhem will be June 25th, 2016 - and we frequently welcome teams from the NYC area. We’re in Central NJ.

Our website needs updating, but as an example, here’s last year’s team list: http://www.midknightmayhem.org/#!2015-team-list/c1qbm

Hope to have you there!

We’ll have a CD post and info on 2016 registration coming soon.

Off-season event? WVROX - 2016. Check it out at marsfirst.org - 26 hours and 14 minutes of continuous robot action!

There’s also Monty Madness in NJ. Bunch of MAR teams go there, and some NYC teams.

By far one of the best offseasons around, I’d wager even one of the best in the country.

It fills up very quickly, but if you can get a spot, take a trip to Monty!

Just as a heads up, Monty Madness may not happen this year as they are hosting an official week 6 event for MAR. Obviously nothing official and I don’t speak for them, but the situation is different than it has been.

We are actually working to raise money fight now to host an off season event in Yonkers (which is basically the sixth bourogh of NYC anyway). If you are interested you can PM me. It may or may not be a thing as we still have about $10,000 left to raise to cover costs.

At 2015’s Monty, they did announce it was “the last Monty Madness”, since they’re moving to the district.

I do hope they change their minds, because we love Monty!

Just in case, MidKnight Mayhem is currently working with our schools to figure out how we can accommodate even more teams to try and make up for our area being down one off-season.

I would like more info on the event in Yonkers, iggy. When do you think you would run it? What is the chance of this happening? IS it just in the discussion phase or are you actively raising money and finding volunteers?

Feel free to email me
[email protected]

I am also not sure why you need $10,000 (more?) to run it. That seems extreme to me. We have been running our event for many years now and our budget is much much lower. But then again we are not in the city and we have a very great school that lets us do what we need to.

The event (Hudson Valley Rally) is happening. We just found a space large enough and willing to host the event, now we are just looking for teams to come and volunteers to help. It is going to be June 7 (Saturday) with robot drop off and optional practice matches the night before.
The $10,000 was actually to cover the rental of a facility to host it, but one of our team’s sponsors agreed to host it for free, so we are all good now.
If you are looking to register, we will have a site up later this week, but for now you can reserve a spot by emailing [email protected].

Thanks for your interest.

Although you asked for NYC area AND Spring/Summer… I’m going to give you information on neither of those things!

Echoing the above: We’d love to have you all this fall at Ruckus. No 2016 information yet except date (October 29th, 2016) and venue (The haunted Main Street Armory – haunted house downstairs), but all the info you need is up on the site from last year.
