Is FIRST Championship truly international?

The Detroit championship may not be international in the FRC sense as there were only a few countries represented, with the bulk of teams being from Canada and the United States (a good majority of Einstein teams being from the state of Michigan alone), but the Detroit championship does seem to reach plenty of countries around the world in the realms of FTC, FLL, and Jr. FLL.

I came across an interesting fact: While all FRC teams in China went to the championship in Houston, Chinese FTC teams seem to be present in both Detroit and Houston. 9 teams from China are represented in Houston, while 4 teams from China are represented in Detroit. What’s even more interesting is that the two FTC teams from ChengDu No. 7 High School that qualified for the FTC Championship went to separate championships (14219 went to Houston, while 14317 went to Detroit).

Here’s the list of FTC championship teams that I used as reference:

Detroit: https://www.firstchampionship.org/sites/default/files/first-tech-challenge/2018/2018-ftc-detroit-teams.pdf

And the FLL teams represented definitely reach throughout the world, as shown by these invitation lists:
