Is half inch wall tubing strong enough for drivetrain?

We typically would use 1/8" wall thickness tubes, 1"x2".
1/2" seems like overkill.

That’s… not tubing. Tubing is hollow.

It’s definitely strong enough, but it’s going to be very heavy because it’s solid bar stock.

You can maybe get away with 1/2" wall if you’re careful, but I’d highly recommend 3/4" wall just to be safe.

While half inch wall is nice, I would advise going to with hollow rather than solid tube, as it increases the strength to weight ratio significantly.

1/2" wall thickness should be OK, unless team 558 is defending. They have been awarded a few of our banana-shaped frame bits.

I think there’s some 1" thick tube around somewhere. Should be able to use that.

Why stop at half when you can go bigger and steel. Here’s a pic of our 2022 frame being fabricated.
