At the competition, is it necessary to use the 2013 Image for the classmate? Or can we just use the 2012 image?
It’s not necessary at all.
The Classmate image doesn’t matter, but you do need a Driver Station software version of at least 1.29.13.00 which requires the LabVIEW 2012 Runtime. If you want an image in the Dashboard you will need Vision 2012 as well. If you have not already updated the DS software from last year, it may be faster to re-image then to uninstall the LabVIEW 2011 components and install the LabVIEW 2012 stuff.
While it might not be necessary, in general it’s best to keep ALL your software up-to-date.
How do I tell what version my Driver Station software is?
EDIT: When I mouseover “Driver Station.exe” in the program files, it says the File Version is 4.0.0.14
I assume that means we’re fine even though we’re still running the 2012 DS image, right?
Open your Driver Station software and go to the * “Setup” tab. It should tell you version number.*
If you mean can you compete with the same software that you used last year then the answer is no. If you have not installed the new DriverStation software this season (including the update released after kickoff) then this definitely must be done in order to compete. But it is not necessarily required to install a whole new image on the Classmate, just installing the new software is sufficient.

Callout 5 on the Diagnostics tab shows where the DS version is on this tab.
You must have the DS version 1.29.13.00 or newer to compete.
