Is it possible to use neo pinion on kraken selected sds mk4

We were planning to make swerve drive this season however the neo pinioned L2 MK4 is out of stock right now. My question is, is it possible to use neo pinion on kraken pinion selected Mk4? We’re either going to manufacture them or buy from andymark.

No because the Neo and kraken have entirely different shafts. The Neo has a 8mm key shaft and the kraken a new 16 shaft

No

is it possible with falcon pinions?

Also not going to work.

Falcon and Kraken shafts are spline shafts, of different splines. NEO shafts (and CIM shafts) are round keyed shafts.

Spline pinions will not work on round keyed shafts, and round keyed pinions will not work on spline shafts. (And spline pinions won’t work on different types of spline shafts, per se.) So neither a Falcon pinion nor a Kraken pinion will work on a NEO motor. NEO pinions won’t work on Falcon or Kraken motors. And Falcon pinions won’t work on Kracken motors (and vice versa).

Now, with that said: If you have the correct pinion size, you CAN switch motor-pinion combinations, to a point. (I’d have to check bolt patterns, but as I recall NEO and Kraken share a bolt pattern–there’s other things that are different, though.) So you could potentially pull a NEO motor out for a Kraken motor.

So we can change both the motor and pinion without changing the whole module? (using neo and neo pinion on falcon ordered module and not falcon or falcon pinion.)

I’d have to look at it in more detail. There is a chance, but I do know there are some differences. I just don’t know what those differences are.

All those motor use a CIM standard bolt circle. Motor/pinion sets are interchangable.

Assuming it’s the same tooth count pinion. Otherwise there may be more than 1 gear to swap.

That is sort of a DUH. Although there are special pinions with different tooth counts that will interchange without changing the other gear. How you ask? It is was originally done on British-Leyland racing gearboxes because British race car engineers are special.

Right, but it still should be said. Sometimes what’s obvious to those who have been doing for a long time is not obvious for those who are new. Having made assembly and work instructions for production, often times it’s best to go down to the basics.

If i am reading your question correctly, yes you can use a NEO with a NEO pinion on a swerve module which you purchased with the kraken pinions option. You just need to source the NEO pinion separately.

Yes

Thank you sir. It’s actually my mistake with not being clear, but that was the answer what i was looking for.
