Is using an 3/8 to 1/2 hex adapter a problem?

I’ve been cadding a westcoast drive as cad practice since I’ve only picked up cadding this year. I don’t know much about FRC as I’m a rookie, and I don’t know if using an adapter on the middle wheel will cause problems because the design of the gearbox that I made uses a 3/8 thunderhex and the tread wheel that our team has uses 1/2 hex.

If it is a true west coast drive with cantilevered wheels (only supported on one side of the wheel) then you are definitely going to have issues. It isn’t uncommon to bend even half inch hex shafts.

Even if it is supported with bearings very close to both sides of the wheel, it likely still will have problems rounding out the adapter if you are using it to transfer torque to the drive wheels (sounds like you are).

3/8" thunderhex is really undersized for drivebase use other than intermediate gearbox shafts.
