I felt a need to open this thread after a very very successful Israeli regional. Their were excellent robots and some of the best matches I’ve seen this year.
The regional winners are:
1574 - Miscar
1657 - Mevoot Eron “Hamosad” (also won the chairman’s award for the second year in a row)
1950 - Crackbots
Our personal story is pretty interesting. The first two days we suffered from technical problems which placed us in the 25th spot out of 34. During the 3rd day we picked up the pace and won 3 games. We were picked by 1690 to join the 7th alliance along with 2257. We won the QF and SF easily (with scores of 94 and 132 before penalties). In the finals we met the (almost) undefeatable 1574 and 1657 who had a very good robot, the number 1 alliance and favorite to win the event. Amazingly we won the 1st round 16-2 with 4 tubes on the top row (1690 and 2257 did an amazing job on defense as they stopped Miscar from hanging more then 1 tube). We lost the second and third round due to 2257 tipping over and 1657 playing very good defense on us while Miscar was free to score.
In was a pretty big disappointment for me because I was the driver and it is my senior year on the team. We will not be going to the championship in Atlanta, but at least we got to participate in one of the best regionals this year.
Good luck to Miscar 1574 who is the only Israeli representative in the 2007 Championship event. I am sure they will get far, and hope to see them on Einstein.
A video archive of the matches will be uploaded in to SOAP once I get the chance to edit some of the videos. In the mean time, here is a video of our second semi-final (sorry but all the videos are in hebrew): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaCIMu3PiEY
I hope to hear more stories from the teams that participated in the regional. I was busy with the robot most of the time so I didn’t get a chance to see a lot of matches.
