It's 02/22/2011 and it's snowing - what happens if FedEx can't pickup our robot?

Right now it’s Monday, 02/21/2011. Our team just crated the robot and many overly tired but happy students have trailed away from school. Robot is ready to be picked up at the school tomorrow (Tuesday 02/22/2011).

However, if the school is closed and/or FedEx can’t pickup the robot, does that create a problem with FIRST? I’m sure that FedEx can re-arrange for a pickup if they can’t get it tomorow but do we need to notify anyone at FIRST?

-Signed - a very tired mentor who’s happy the Build Season has come to a close…

Call FIRST as soon as you hear that FedEx can’t get your crate.

Bingo, they will probably require a letter from the head of your school that the robot is crated and out of your hands.

Subject: FIRST EMAIL/TODAY is Robot Ship/Lock-up Day!

Snippet

“What if I am unable to ship/lock-up my robot today?” We recognize that some teams may not be able to ship or bag their robots today due to circumstances beyond their control, for example, if a school is closed due to inclement weather. Teams in this situation must make every effort to ship or bag their robot as soon as possible after the circumstance causing the delay has cleared. Teams in this situation must also send an email to [email protected], explaining the reason why they can’t ship or bag their robot, and certifying that no work was done on the robot after 2/22. The email must come from an adult who is not directly affiliated with the team, such as a school administrator, and must include the sender’s phone number in case we have additional questions.

If someone needs this email sent to them, send me an email to [email protected] and I’ll forward it.

We are in that exact situation. FIRST is very willing to work with teams. But you must contact them to let them know what is going on.

FIRST has sent out a mass email to all team leaders addressing this issue. I am mentoring a few rookies who called today with just this problem. We got dumped on in Michigan so no school the last few days.

DON"T call FIRST, you need to send them an email. I called to ask and they said it had to be done by email. Good luck in your season!!
