its all in the glove!

HAHA. I did it, i created the ultimate control with a glove. Little old me and my workbench cranked out the ultimate user friend control system. Using one hand i can stop, drive, reverse, and turn my cart; all from up to 50 yards away with no interfearence. Hopr u all can see it at the nationals. PEACE OUT

Care to share any more details? Pictures?

How about a picture and description of what you didā€¦I will not be coming to Nationalsā€¦you might as well lay it on me now!

Thats coolā€¦ I agree we need a picture. I am hoping that cyber blue has an equally great mechanism.

weā€™ve got a few things worked up, i canā€™t show you yet though:p

What happens when your nose itches and you scratch it?

Why, are we talking about creating an Edward Scissorhands?

(Iā€™m not sure if blood stains in the driver station carpet is considered ā€œruining the fieldā€)

I was thinking more along the lines of the robot doing the funky chickenā€¦that would actually be greatly entertainingā€¦

Hey Dandaman!

The glove is a cool idea congrads for accomplishing what sounds like an impressive bit of work ! (we experiemented with a similar idea two years ago, but they trashed the manipulatior so there was no place to use itā€¦grrrr). However, some things to consider before you show up for competition.

Rule GM14 prohibits special equipment or clothing for players. I think the exception is if you manufacturer your glove out of allowed materialsā€¦ such as aluminum (and Iā€™d love to see one of those!) and wired it to the OI inputs.
(personally, Iā€™ve never seen rule GM14 except on the FIRST competition board in message 75ā€¦ I wonder if someoneā€™s pulling my leg.)
OR Small parts carries work glovesā€¦ possibly other gloves. If youā€™re using a Small Parts glove it may be the exception to the rule. (Digi-key and Future Active parts are only allowed for the custom circuit so none of those parts except for electronics on the addtional parts list sould appear outside of the box.

I havnā€™t seen FIRST post anything about control system exception. I hope this is all old news to you and you built your design around that GM14 thing.

Anyway, just thought Iā€™d point this out so youā€™re not called at a regional or the nationals for a rules violation.

Best Luck!

A) Yes.

FIRST MRT

Straight from the FRC board. Guess its allowed.

Well, this is something I have to see. Either post a pic, or we have to plan a little meeting at the nationals (iā€™ll be there). Iā€™m my teamā€™s programmer and by default driver (seeing as iā€™m the only one that knows what all the buttons do :D). making a glove control system would be interesting, although not very functional for me this year, but itā€™s still a really cool idea. so, please, either post a pic, or, well, even if you post a pic, iā€™m still gona hunt you down at nationals just to see ā€œthe gloveā€.

The Yahoo question that Wetzel posted was for our robot. We will be able to control our robot arm to pick up balls using a glove and three pots. There is also some extra hardware involved. I will posts some pictures when I have been given the go ahead to do so :stuck_out_tongue:

Wayne Doenges

We designed our control system to be hands free, so we used a sock and we control the robot with our toes!

ok, well maybe not, but your idea sounds really awesome, good luck

Dandaman!

Sounds like you got it covered! Just some ā€œfree adviceā€ take a copy of that message from FIRST with you so you have a ready backup. Best of luck with the Technical Conrol award!

Hey! Since this thread is full of control innovators I was hoping that you guys could voice your opinion on this thread
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2741 and hopefully make it come alive

Thanx!
Eugene

P.S. Iā€™m hoping we will get enough money to go to nationals so i could see your glove.
