JAGUAR PROBLEMS!!!

Today, i was successfully able to drive our robot for the first time. Our only problems were that the right and left were inverted(fixed now), and when we went full throttle, it would turn to a side. We believe this is because we forgot to calibrate the jaguars. After fixing some vi stuff, we went to run the robot again. This time, 2 of 4 jaguars were not working. One of which we confirmed dead while the other we got to work again. After this, we put all the jaguars back on and calibrated them again. All the jaguars worked, except for one. This one would be a solid yellow stating neutral, but once we moved the joystick, problems arose. When the joystick is moved in either direction, the jaguar shows a red light and the wheels don’t spin. We reset the jaguar and calibrated again, but no success.

One of our mentors thought the code was the problem, but i am pretty sure not because it is basically the default labview code with one extra motor for an arm and minibot deployment. Also, it is in arcade drive, thus the motors work together.
I am thinking it is the jaguar and it just needs to be replaced.

Any solutions?

Thanks

I’m curious, what have you done to ‘confirm dead’ one of the Jaguars? What got the other one working?

The red light indicates an electrical fault of some kind, have you made sure there are no metal chips causing a short anyway on the robot? Anything like that?

We confirmed the first one dead because it would try to use power, but never got started. One power was brought to it, the fan would make a clicking noise and never start spinning. I am not sure how we got the other to work because i was working on something else. I don’t think their is any metal chips or something like that because we have kept the jaguars covered unless we are working on electrical where we are still very careful.
I don’t know if you were mistaken, but the light isn’t red when the robot is turned on, it is red when the joystick is moved. Thus, it is in neutral, then turns red, then goes back to yellow when joystick is released

I misunderstood, I thought you meant a rapid flashing red, my mistake.
As far as the fan clicking noise, have you tried blowing it out with compressed air? It may just be getting stuck, and I have no idea how the Jags internal processor reacts to not being able to start the fan, it may shut itself down, or it may do nothing.

I will try the compressed air possible tomorrow or monday. Thanks
