Well,
I don’t know if Janet Reno will get the funding,
mainly because she has Parkinson disease. But
she could come to our nationals. That would get
some PR have the former Attorney General there.

I would rather see FIRST bring in someone from science and technology as a guest speaker, rather than Janet Reno (or any politician)… Even if she is a Cornell graduate. How about Bill Nye (also Cornell grad), or maybe Bill Gates (not a college grad)? I think these types of people are more of the type of people that FIRSTers look up to.

Pat - I agree that it would be great to have more science & technology guest speakers at Nats.
But she really wouldn’t be a guest speaker…if she’s governor of FL, she’ll do exactly what Jeb Bush has done these past couple of years…walk around the pit & talk to Dean. What Im pondering about is if she would become governor, would she do more for FIRST than Jeb? or less?
Ok, Im done

Jess, Anyone can do more than Jeb for FIRST. I live in FL. He just shows up at nats and that’s about all his has to do with FIRST. Wether or not the polotics is here for her to get elected in the first place is another story. Florida’s weird about electing people who know the right people.

I’m not exactly sure what else you want Jeb to do. How many other state governors take time out to visit Nationals? The best thing Jeb can do for FIRST is foster an economic environment within the state where technology companies thrive and have the money and people to sponsor teams. Quite frankly, I would be concerned if Jeb spent MORE than 1 day a year supporting FIRST.
It is of deep concern to me that our culture has taught at least 4 generations of people to look to the government to satisfy all their wants and fulfill their needs.
As far as “knowing the right people”, based on the things that went on in the Justice Dept under her watch, I don’t think I want any help from the “right people” she knows.

I agree… The point of goverment is to ensure us the freedom granted by the constitution. And it this this freedom that allows such an organization to exist. Look at it this way… They spend 20 years manipulating public opinion to get where they are – anyone honest or with the ability to perform independent thought is automatically weeded out by the system. Do we really want these people “helping” us (not that they have the ability to do anything)?

The other thing is Elian Gonzales. The Latin American vote is extremely important in Florida. I’m not saying anyother group is less important, just that the Latin American vote is huge.
C-ya,
Carolyn leaving you with something to ponder.

Bill Nye is an employee of Disney… His studio is owned by Disney and the show is a Disney production. Did I make a strong enough connection between Bill Nye and Disney?
C-ya,
Carolyn who is pondering Disney and Bill Nye as she holds her pinky to the corner of her mouth like Dr. Evil. hmmmmmm…

I am trying to get Bill Nye’s contact info so I can try and see if he is interested in becoming involved with FIRST in any way… although i have heard there are connections between him & battlebots too… His philosophy about teaching kids about science in a fun way is right along the lines with FIRST, so maybe he’ll be interested.
Anyway, if anyone happens to know any contact info, please let me know.
Thanks
Patrick

Yeah, he’s the guy on Battlebots who explains specific features of the competing robots (i.e. weapons, ground clearance, speed, etc.)
