We created a detailed guide for using the MSP40F5529 LaunchPad (Arduino-like board) included in the Kit of Parts last year, and First Choise this year, to create custom operator interfaces
Custom boards you say? Using standard arcade buttons is the simple route which allows for quick actions on the operator’s part. I really like it when other teams experiment and deviate away from the standard flight stick and controller setup. It makes your driver station truly your own.
Those of you who remember the original Xbox might remember Steel Battalion and its custom 40 button controller complete with an eject button. Imagine the possibilities, but good luck getting your hands on one.
If your going to Worlds, they have a session discussing it on Wednesday:
7:00-8:00 pm Make a Custom Joystick Using Arduino Leonardo Microcontroller
Ross (KWOL) Kowalski, Teacher, Norwell High School
This session will explain the entire process of making, programming, and using
custom joysticks and control panels for your driver station using Arduino Leonardo
microcontrollers. The session is designed for someone with no knowledge of
Arduinos to be able to make a custom joystick.
AC 275
Its on my list of things to attend, if i can make it there by then.
While I haven’t personally tried it with the FRC control system, I prefer the GroovyGameGear GPWiz 40. Recognized by Windows as a standard gamepad but you can do whatever you like with the inputs. 32 Digital Inputs!
