just wondering [g code cnc machining]

hmmm, i just joined these forums and i’ve come to a conclusion, they rock!!!, lol, i was just wondering if anyone else here knows g code cnc machining, cuz if you do i’d love to talk

yep… i know it.

add me to the list of know-ers

You can add me. If you need some resources the Machinery HandBook has a list of common G-codes for CNC.

yay, fellow g-code knowers, i didn’t think there would be that much, but hey, it’s all good, good to see the art of machining isn’t gunna die soon.

add me 2 the list!.. ne specific questions? G-codes pretty simple itself, its more problems with endmills getting stuck a bit and messing up depth measurements… that is if you don’t have closed loop feed back sys on ur CNC (like us!)

Yup, I know G code, I even took a class where machining a part on a CNC mill was our final, but WPI still won’t let me use their machines.

nope the maxnc machine that i’m using right now is an open loop, but the machines at work are all closed loop, and we even have some star cnc lathes, hmmmm, i’m starting to drool just thinkning about them, lol, and yeah, i hate it when the endmill gets stuck, especially when i’m cutting a groove with an a-axis rotary table and the part starts to slide out, then all the measurments get screwed.

I know g-code… Spent far too many hours generating g-code and/or operating CNC machinery in college when I should have been in class or studying.

You can add me to the growing list of people who can speak machine code. if anyone needs help…I have master cam 8.1.1 on my computer, in addition to current auto desk applications including auto cad, and inventor. So…if anyone needs a file converted into something…or double checked…I’m not against receiving files, and checking em out when I’m not too busy.

ha ha Patrick…I’m just starting college, and I already spend way too much time in the machine shop, and robotics season hasn’t even started yet.

Just gotta build a turbo-jet engine…anyone interested in learning more about that project can pm me. (or if they want to be bored to tears with the insanely large amount of information I can spew out about jet engines) you can email me.

u know coreyjon i’ve always wanted to do that… its pretty expensive… even just the raw materials… unless u get them free from college or something…

It isn’t as expensive as you might think. You can grab a used Turbo Charger from a junk yard for 40 bucks, maybe even for free if you tell em what your gonna do with it. if you want more info on what it takes to build a jet engine from a super charger, feel free, like I said, to email me. This site is for robotics, not really jet propulsion. But, it you wanted to start a thread in chit-chat or something, I’d be more than happy to comment, and go into detail about it.

You could just start a topic in the science forum. Anyway it doesn’t seem that hard to build a jet engine out of scrap parts. I have seen it done twice on junkyard wars.

if anyone wants i have virtual gibbs, the full version, but shhhh, i have the patch so you can make copies.

g code isn’t too bad if you just make 2-d parts, transmission plates, etc… We just received MasterCam 9.2 FREE (legally), from a distributer after some begging and pleading (EDU version is $1500, Retail version is $15,000). Now to figure out how to use it to make some more intricate parts and really use the 4-axis capability of our CNC.

i have a maxnc with an extra a axis rotary table, i’ve made alot of 3d parts, especially when i use the swiss syle horizontal lathe.

yeah… i kno about the turbo engines… but what i want is one for r/c planes… thrust to weight on the turbos isn’t good enough… i thought u were talking about one of those (like the KJ66 or something>…) newasy sorrry for going of topic
