You had to know it would be expensive, though. A new product concept like the Stirling engine is always expensive. And yes, it is, more or less, the same product that was on 60 minutes (at least in concept).

For what it does and for its total cost of ownership the price is not so bad. Alternative power sources would be comparable in purchase price but would generally be much more expensive in fuel costs. And the purifier equipment itself is, I suspect, much more costly. You have to look at comparative costs not just literal costs.
