Kansas Cup Q & A

Hi, name is Jack from 5119 and I am the Event Director of the Kansas Cup. If you have any questions about the event I would be more than happy to answer them. If you want to register go to our website HERE. We hope to see you there November 10th and 11th.

Will there be a rolling registered team list or just one posted all at once before the event?

We launched one week ago from today with our team meetings on Thursday nights. Our next meeting is tonight (Sept. 28) and we will have running list of teams posted then.

Will there be any rule modifications?

We are still finalizing some, but we won’t be doing safety checks (gracious professionalism). The only rule change I can confirm is we will have 4 alliances advance to finals not 8.

Interesting. I’d assume that’s because of the time constraints?

No its mostly to create a more competitive atmosphere. With 8 alliances going to the finals that would mean 24 teams would be advancing. If it is only 4 alliances, that means 12 teams advancing or 1/3 of the total teams going to finals which is close to the same ratio of teams advancing for The Kansas City Regional.

Can you give more info about the times of the event? Does it start Friday evening after school or is it all day? I looked around on the website and didn’t see it.

It will be Friday after school around 3 or 4 to 10 that night. Then on Saturday from 7am to 6pm. Official full itinerary is in progress will be up in a few days.

For those watching, the schedule and registered teams list are posted on the website. There is still time to sign-up for anyone wanting to attend and it should be a fun time.

Also, here is the email update:

Currently the website is showing 20 teams. Half of them did not get into (or did not register for) the Cow Town ThrowDown. Thank you for hosting this event. The local demand for a 2nd regional to accommodate everyone has also been a problem for trying to get into off-season events. In addition, it’s a great opportunity to train some new drivers in full 3 on 3 competition.

The event dates time has changed. To allow more teams who have a ways to travel the event will only be on Saturday November 11th all day. For a more detailed schedule visit our website here http://frcteam5119.com/kansas-cup/event-schedule

The website has 23 teams listed, but a recent e-mail indicated a 24th, along with the potential for some teams to bring two robots. The list below reflects what is on the website. Thanks again for providing one more opportunity this offseason to train our new members.

Thank you to Johnny Paradise and the rest of Team STEAM, FRC 5119 for hosting the Kansas Cup. This was a well run event, in a beautiful facility. On behalf of Team Titanium, FRC 1986, we appreciate opening this up to Missouri teams to participate and look forward to the day when there are so many Kansas teams that this is no longer possible.

22 robots ended up playing in the event. 0984 was a 2nd robot built by 1984, and 1861 was the practice bot for 1987. 5119 bowed out of the alliance selection process allowing the remaining teams to form 7 elimination alliances through a serpentine draft. The #1 alliance was given a bye into the semi-finals, while the remaining alliances played a single elimination match to advance. Semis and Finals were the traditional best 2 of 3 format.

Thank you to 1987 and 0984 for joining our alliance. Even though we had the kPa advantage, with only two climbers on the alliance every match had the potential to go the other way with a climbing mistake or major penalty. Made for some exciting matches, and cool to watch the drive teams respond under that pressure with great performances.

Missouri and Kansas are now up to 3 regionals for 2018 and 4 off season events. How much longer until the region has to think up a cool acronym for the MOKAN District?

This event went better than i could have expected. With only one or two delays we were able to finish to finish 10 minutes ahead of schedule, unheard of for a FIRST event. With all the support of the teams in the MOKAN area we will be proud to continue hosting this event for years to come.

I would like to Congratulate again our winning alliance, 1986 Team Titanium, 1987 The Broncobots, and 914 Ewoks.

Thank you all again, and we are excited to keep hosting the only FRC event in the state of Kansas.

Thanks again for hosting the event!

Question, I saw a couple of (presumably) your students running around with cameras; any chance those pictures will be released anywhere?
