For those who are unaware, KSP is a realistic space simulation game where you can build rockets, send them to space, and then explore an entire solar system using real-world physics concepts. I heavily recommend this game to anyone who has an interest in this area, and I’m glad to see that it’ll be available for free so everyone can enjoy it!
Pretty interesting that this coincides with kickoff, maybe this was planned? KSP is about space, and you know what space has? Or rather… lacks? Gravity. Unfortunately here on earth, gravity is pretty difficult to bypass. But what’s one of the most common ways for people to feel limited gravity? That’s right, water.
There is an only slightly lesser-known way to simulate lower gravity, particularly on a planetary surface. Some call it fiber-reinforced plastic, and use it on coolers and restroom walls. Others pair it with wheels and call it “regolith”.
I would actually like to see what teams would do with that challenge and modern controls. It would be really ugly unless there were other wheel options though, as no modern COTS swerve would work with the 6" wheels that were mandated in 2009.
Fun fact: you can export craft files in a 3D file format that can be converted into something that can be sliced and 3D printed. Therefore, KSP is a cad program.
