Hey all,
Kettering University’s Ri3D team, The Bulldogs, is excited to announce our return for 2025! This notification is a bit late, but we are ready to get rolling tomorrow morning!!
We don’t have a dedicated media team, but we will try our best to post updates here throughout the build; if you’re curious about anything, don’t hesitate to ask us, we’ll be checking and answering as we can.
Best regards,

Hi everyone!
Today marked the exciting kickoff of our Robot in 3 Days (Ri3D) challenge! With the new game revealed, our team dove headfirst into brainstorming, strategizing, and prototyping.
We started by analyzing the game manual and identifying the most achievable tasks for our 3-day timeframe. Keeping resource limitations in mind, we prioritized simple, effective designs that could be replicated by teams with varying levels of experience. Our initial focus was on developing a robust intake system inspired by those seen in the 2019 Deep Space game.
Meanwhile, our climb team explored low-tech, easily implemented mechanisms for tackling the shallow cage. They’ve already begun prototyping and testing their ideas.
On the media side, we encountered a minor setback with our GoPro setup, but quickly pivoted to preparing an iPad for live streaming our progress. We’re hoping to have that up and running tomorrow, so stay tuned!
Overall, Day 1 was a success! We laid the groundwork for our robot’s design and made significant progress on key mechanisms. We’re excited to continue the momentum tomorrow and see our vision come to life. Keep an eye out, we will be posting some videos and photos as we have the time tomorrow!!

Yesterday, the team made significant progress on the robot, tackling a variety of tasks across different areas.
We started by working on the robot’s code, getting the wheels functional, though we ran into a packet issue that we plan to address. The algae intake and coral were also manufactured, and efforts were made to clean up the robot by removing unnecessary components.
A Twitch account was set up, and a live stream was launched, along with updates to a wishlist and research on new items. Parts were also salvaged from an old robot, and the process was documented with photos and videos for future reference.
The battery holder was created, and a hook was designed, 3D printed, and is now being redesigned for further improvements. Additionally, the algae picking mechanism’s wheels were replaced, and parts were gathered from older robots for reuse.
Overall, it was a productive day, and we’re excited to keep the momentum going today as we continue refining and building the robot. Stay tuned for more updates!
