Kickoff 2009 LIVE Coverage - Planning

LIVE Kickoff Coverage

The Blue Alliance will again be traveling to Manchester, NH to cover the 2009 FIRST Robotics Competition LIVE. Once again, we will be bringing you up-to-the-minute and behind-the-scenes video, photos, and news. To get an idea for what this is like, check out our 2008 and 2007 coverage.

Bookmark thebluealliance.net/kickoff09, and be sure to check back on the evening before Kickoff, when our live coverage begins.

Participate!

“But wait,” you might say. “That’s a very read-only experience! How will The Blue Alliance engage me in their Kickoff 2009 coverage?”

Well, you ask a very astute question. One of the great things about FIRST is sharing knowledge and ideas within the community. To this extent, The Blue Alliance wants your help in deciding what coverage to bring you from the 2009 Kickoff!

There are a few ways to participate:

  • Post a reply to this thread with ideas for specific information and formats you want to see. In years past, we have used Vimeo for videos, Flickr for photos, and Twitter for news, but if you have a new great idea, let us know!
  • Help build the liveblogging web site we’ll be using. Check out the technical discussion thread, where community members can help collaborate on our open-source liveblogging page. We want to show you how we do it, and get your input on doing it better!
  • Tune in during Kickoff and see it all take place!

Do It!

We want to know what you think! Reply to this thread and let us know!

Bookmark thebluealliance.net/kickoff09, and see what we’re up to on the big day!

If you want to follow along with the beta versions of the site as development progresses, check out http://www.thebluealliance.net/kickoff09/beta/

Things will really start getting rolling in the next few days, but you can start checking out what it ought to end up like now

I think that it’s great to have The Blue Alliance back this year, and it would be great to have them back for many years to come.

I also think it’s fantastic to have full online (and Web 2.0, no less  ) media coverage of the Kickoff, having missed the last two years’ kickoffs, and now having my first job making it more difficult to attend the kickoff and the workshops.

Will the feed be archived and available for us to view at our Jan 4th meeting?

First usually records it and posts the video on their website.

Now with more Facebook Event!

As far as I know, ustream.tv allows recording all the live broadcasting for later, so we’ll put that up somewhere. The NASA feed is usually recorded by NASA, so you’re good to go there as well!

Meebo room is full :-’(

I didn’t know that could happen. Erm, any ideas for a quick fix?

Don’t use Meebo, use IRC, a well proven technology

Freenode is a network for “peer directed projects” like FIRST (though designed for software). There are FIRST-related channels for FRC, FIRST in general, FLL, etc registered. See my footer.

Or you may want to set up a dedicated IRC server. But the point is the same, IRC works.
